DESIGN CONCEPTUALISATION
Designing for maximum apartment density on a site flanked on three sides made harnessing natural elements (wind, daylight) to improve living conditions our top design priority. It was also important to give occupants visual connection across floors and with their immediate environment. All of these considerations helped to shape our approach on the project. NATURAL COOLING NETWORK
While South-West Trade Winds provide a continuous stream of cool air through and up the courtyard that aerates apartment floors and rooftop, the carpark walls completely flank the courtyard area on the ground floor to provide residents with a private recreational area. However, this poses a challenge of how to maintain the natural cooling network throughout the courtyard. After exploring various possibilities, we decided to introduce a swimming pool where residents can relax, while the water helps to cool the air within the courtyard on the ground floor.
